Heritage

Over the last twenty-five years, Milton Keynes’s new town heritage has been under constant attack. The carefully designed and curated system of street furniture, including (but not limited to) road signage, street lighting, planters, paving materials, porte cochere crossings, artworks, and trellis structures has been obliterated by Milton Keynes Council in their self-contradictory mission to cut costs and fully utilise ringfenced and time-limited budgets.

City of the Future is campaigning for the widespread restoration of the city’s design heritage. On these pages, we will outline the standards we seek to restore across the city. We also seek an official recognition from Milton Keynes Council that this city is a heritage asset as a whole and that its unique design should be respected, maintained, and extended in the future.
